I started out upgrading my stock g4teway... Eventually almost nothing was left of the original parts but the dvd drive, processor, and harddrive, so I think its about time to say its not a g4teway anymore,  2funny!

Athl0n 64 X2 5000+ duel core (2.6ghz)
:  Salvaged from my old g4teway, will eventually upgrade to a quad-core, but in no rush since this processor runs everything I have tried on it flawlessly.

Wind0ws Vist4 Home premium                   :  Again from g4teway. The code was still good, woo. Gotta love Direct X 10!

Se4gate 500GB sata harddrive       :   From g4teway pc. If it aint broke, dont fix it!

ASRock motherboard                                : Got it for 70 dollars, was on sale, wow... I can upgrade it considerably though, cause it can support quad core processors, huzzah.

WINTEC DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)   : 2GB installed right now, I have 2 more GB on order. total cost, about 80 dollars. No use getting any more ram than that, since I have no plans on going to a 64bit operating system anytime soon.

BFG Tech GeForce GTS 250 1GB     : Cost me 130 bucks (again, on "Sale"...), yikes. This thing eats up everything I have thrown at it. Very happy with it, heheh.

hec 585W  power supply   : I needed it for the graphics card (the g4teway only had a 300 watt  power supply), and will eventually need it for a new processor. I think it only cost 30 dollars on sale.

dvd drive (from old g4teway) memory card reader (given to me, woo!)

And finally, my... *cough* beautiful case! its a full sized ATX case from circa 1998. It was the only one that would hold the asrock motherboard. It was also given to me, nice. The extra fans (salvaged from several older pcs) keep it nice and cool inside. I had to do it that way because the case didnt have a back vent. I guess the original 200mhz processor inside it didn't really need all that extra cooling.
I would get a new case, but this works fine! My processor doesn't go past 52c under full load; Very good for a AMD processor, lol.

Total cost : 310 dollars! Seems like a lot, but If I got a prebuilt with these kind of specs it would be more like 600 to 700 dollars.
It also helped that I could salvage from my other computers a bit.

hey you could build a "Borg" system out of it, use any old circuit boards you can salvage from dived electronics to cover the atx case, I saw a system like this a while back on a computer mod site, it was awesome looking.

You might need a dremel with a diamond wheel to cut boards to fit it for the front and top though.

Oh yes, for sure! Its from a heavy duty fry box from good old mcdeeees. I had trouble cutting it with a box cutter, lol.
Skillz indeed. More like one failure after another because of lack of foresight and technical knowledge. The only reason I have a better computer than when I started was because of shear perseverance, luck, and my income tax refund, lol. Else I would just have a pile of computer parts!

Exactly! You feel the same as me, Cheesy.
Sure I could fancy it up (have been wanting to make a steam punk pc for a while) but its fun having a gaming pc that looks like a pile of junk. Takes people from surprise. Then again a borg pc, heheh... No, no no. Wait, yesss, I got a spare motherboard, bwahaha. But thats another project....
Anyway, not to go all geeky, but to quote that one movie... "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself."
